We make FloorGen, so weigh our view. HomeByMe's web pricing page loads its amounts in the browser and showed none to us; the US dollar prices below are from its own App Store listing, which gives two different monthly prices for Pro, so we quote only its yearly Pro price.

Where HomeByMe is the better choice

  • Decorating with real products. Tens of thousands of branded pieces from retailers such as Maison du Monde, Wayfair and Westwing. FloorGen's 3,000 or so models are generic shapes you size yourself.
  • Pictures and video. Photoreal Full HD and 4K images (unlimited on Pro), 360° panoramas and HD to 4K walkthrough videos. FloorGen has no photoreal rendering.
  • A redraw service. Send your plan and HomeByMe's team builds the 3D project, within 3 business days.
  • Mobile scanning. LiDAR room scanning on iPhone 12 Pro and later, and AI furnishing suggestions in the app.
  • Community and extras. An inspiration gallery of other people's projects, MakeByMe for custom furniture, and 3DStory portfolios on Pro.

Where FloorGen is the better choice

  • Free for any use, with no project cap. No account to start, and the terms let you use what you draw in your own plans and exports; free exports may carry a small FloorGen badge. HomeByMe's free plan has two projects and is for non-professional use.
  • A plan you can build from. Feet and inches to 1/16 in or metric to 1 mm, typed wall lengths, dimension strings and room areas.
  • Scaled drawings. Print sets at a real scale up to ARCH D or A1 with a title block, plus elevations and sections. HomeByMe's help suggests printing an image to PDF.
  • CAD on every plan. DXF (R12) straight from the browser. HomeByMe's DWG/DXF route is DraftSight on Pro, on Windows only.
  • Tracing with help. Set the scale from two points and accept the walls FloorGen suggests from the drawing.
  • Checks and quantities. Code checks for rooms, stairs and escape windows, and paint, flooring and tile quantities with a budget.
  • AI agents. An MCP server so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can edit the plan.

Using both, or switching

A common split is to draw the plan accurately in FloorGen and decorate it in HomeByMe. FloorGen has no importer for HomeByMe projects, so to move a plan across, trace a picture of it:

  1. Take a 2D image of the plan in HomeByMe (a plan export or a screenshot of the 2D view) with its dimensions showing.
  2. Start a trace in FloorGen with the button above and pick the file.
  3. Set the scale from the longest dimension.
  4. Accept the suggested walls or draw over them, then furnish with FloorGen's models; HomeByMe's branded products do not carry over.
  5. Check the room areas against the original.

Questions

Is HomeByMe free?

Its Starter plan is free for non-professional use: two projects, five Full HD images, unlimited 2D and 3D screenshots and its full catalogue. Paid plans add more images, 4K, 360s and video.

Can I use HomeByMe for client work?

HomeByMe's service conditions make professional use fee-based, and its help center says Pro accounts may be used commercially.

Can FloorGen show real furniture brands?

No. FloorGen's models are generic. You can attach a product link, code and price to any item, and the shopping list totals them.

Can FloorGen open HomeByMe projects?

No. Trace an image of the plan instead; converting a floor plan image walks through it.
