How we compare

  • We make FloorGen. Every page says so, and every page has a section on where the other tool is the better choice.
  • Vendor pages only. Each fact about another tool comes from its own pricing page, help center, terms or app store listing, not from review sites.
  • Dated. Every page says when it was checked. Plans and prices change often; check the vendor's page before you commit a project to it.
  • No guessed prices. Where a vendor's prices load only in the browser and we could not read them, we leave them out and say so. Where a vendor's own pages disagree, we give both.
  • No logos and no scores. We compare what each tool does, not how many people use it.

A starting point by need. Try two before you commit.

FloorGen's own gaps, so you can rule it out quickly: no photoreal rendering, no phone scanning, no DWG or IFC export, no DWG import, no hosted share links and no real-time co-editing. Who FloorGen is for goes through what that means for homeowners, designers, agents, architects and builders.

Questions

What is the best free alternative to FloorGen?

For a full offline program, Sweet Home 3D, which is free and open source. For decorating, HomeByMe's or Planner 5D's free plans. Each has limits that FloorGen does not, and features FloorGen lacks; the pages above set them side by side.

Which floor plan software is completely free?

Of the nine here, FloorGen and Sweet Home 3D let you draw and export every format free (FloorGen's free exports may carry a small badge). The others are freemium with limits on projects, resolution, watermarks or downloads, except SmartDraw, which has a trial only.

Can I move a plan from one tool to another?

Sometimes. FloorGen imports DXF, which most CAD tools export, as editable walls, doors and windows. From other tools you trace a PDF or image of the plan instead, which takes minutes for a simple house. Each comparison page has the steps.

How often are these pages checked?

Each page carries the month it was checked, October 2026 for all of them now. The date changes when a page is re-checked.
