Edit a floor plan together, live

Invite people to a project by email as editors or viewers, and everyone can have it open at once: each edit reaches the others within moments, and you see who is there and what they have selected. Undo takes back only your own changes.

Roles

Editors and viewers

Invite by email, whether or not they have a FloorGen account yet. Avatars in the top bar show who has it open, and on the 2D plan each person's selection is outlined in their colour with their name.

When edits clash

Yours is kept, and so is theirs

Each change goes up on its own, so two people can work on different rooms at once. If you both change the same thing, FloorGen keeps yours, merges the rest of theirs, and saves their version as a restore point in Version history.

Sharing, in detail

How to share a plan in FloorGen

Sharing needs a free account, for you and for each person you invite. Guests see Sign in to share in place of the invite form; the projects you made as a guest come with you when you sign in.

  1. Open the Share dialog. Open the project and click Share in the top bar. On a phone, open the account menu at the top right and pick Share.
  2. Type their email and pick a role. Enter the address in Email (it works whether or not they have a FloorGen account yet) and choose Can edit or Can view.
  3. Click Invite. The dialog shows the invite link once, with Copy. If an email went out, only an account with that address can accept it; if not, send the link yourself, and anyone who has it can accept. A link works once and lasts 7 days.
  4. They accept. The person opens the link, signs in, and clicks Accept on the You're invited to a project card. The project opens, and from then on it is under Shared with me on their projects page, on any device they sign in on.
  5. Work on it together. Avatars in the top bar show who else has it open; hover them for the names ("Also here: Ben, Ana…"). On the 2D plan, what each person has selected is outlined in their colour with their name.

What each person can do

Roles on a shared project (from the Share dialog)
RoleWhat they can do
OwnerEdit, invite people, change roles, remove people, revoke or renew invites, and delete the project. The project stays in the owner's account and counts toward the owner's storage.
Can editEdit the plan with you, live. They can leave the project but cannot invite anyone.
Can viewOpen the plan read-only, with a View only chip where Undo and Redo usually are and the tool dock hidden. Exports run in the browser, so a viewer can still export what they see.

Change a role from the menu next to a name under People with access, or click Remove: they lose access at once and the project closes in their open tabs. Someone you remove keeps the copy already on their device, as their own project.

How edits come together

  • Each change goes up on its own, so two people can work on different rooms, or on different properties of the same wall, without getting in each other's way. A toast such as "Ana changed this project." says when someone else's change arrives.
  • A clash keeps your version. When someone changes the same thing you were editing, FloorGen keeps yours, merges the rest of their changes, and saves their version as a restore point in Version history…. The toast offers Open in Versions.
  • Undo is per person. Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on a Mac) undoes only your own steps, and will not undo over a change someone else made after you.
  • Offline is fine. Keep working; your edits wait and go up when the connection comes back, and other people's edits are merged in then.

Agents and AI on a shared plan

FloorGen AI, API keys and connected apps work on projects you own, not on projects shared with you: there the AI chat says "FloorGen AI isn't available on shared projects yet". On your own project, an agent connected over MCP edits live while you watch: who_is_here tells it whether you have the project open (other people only as a count), get_selection reads what you selected, and post_note leaves a note in Activity without changing the plan. Activity lists every agent edit with Show and Revert.

Limits

  • No comments or chat. To leave a remark on the drawing itself, add a text note (T), which everyone on the project sees in 2D.
  • No live pointers. You see each person's avatar and selection, not their mouse.
  • No public view link. Everyone opens a shared project from their own account. To show a plan to someone without an account, send the View-only page from Export: one HTML file with the plan, a 3D view and the room list.
  • No team accounts. Sharing is per project; only the owner invites, and editors cannot.
  • Up to 5 people per project. The Share dialog shows how many places are left, counting pending invites. You can send up to 30 invites a day.
  • Too many tabs stop updating. Past five tabs of one project, the oldest stops live updates; reload or close it.

Questions

Does the other person need an account?
Yes, a free one. They sign in or create it when they open the invite, and you can invite an address before it has an account.
Can two people edit at the same time?
Yes. Each change is sent on its own and merged, so you can work in different rooms at once. If you both change the same thing, your version is kept and theirs is saved in Version history….
Can I share a plan with someone who has no account?
Not as a live project. Export a View-only page instead: one .html file they open in any browser, offline, without being able to edit it.
Can I see other people's cursors?
No. You see who has the project open in the top bar, and on the 2D plan what each person has selected, outlined in their colour with their name.
Can a viewer change the plan?
No. A viewer sees a View only chip and read-only properties, though they can export. The owner can make them an editor at any time; their open tab follows.
Whose storage does a shared project use?
The owner's. It never counts toward the limits of the people invited to it.
Can I use FloorGen AI on a project shared with me?
Not yet. FloorGen AI, API keys and connected apps work only on projects you own.
