Share a project

Updated 4 min readNeeds a free account

Open the project, click Share in the top bar and invite people by email as editors or viewers. They open the project from their own free account and work on it with you.

Invite someone

  1. Step 1: Open the Share dialog

Click Share in the top bar. On a phone, open the account menu at the top right and pick Share.

  2. Step 2: Type their email

Enter the address in the Email field. It works whether or not the person has a FloorGen account yet.

  3. Step 3: Pick a role

Choose Can edit for someone who should change the plan, or Can view for someone who should only look at it.

  4. Step 4: Click Invite

Click Invite. The dialog shows the invite link once, with Copy. If an email went out, only an account with that address can accept. If not, send the link yourself: anyone who has it can accept.

Editors and viewers

What each person on a project can do
RoleWhat they can do
Owner (you)Edit, invite people, change roles, remove people, revoke invites and delete the project.
Can editEdit the plan with you, live. They can leave the project but cannot invite anyone.
Can viewOpen the plan read-only, with a View only chip in the top bar. Exports run in the browser, so a viewer can still export.

Manage people and invites

  • People with access lists everyone on the project. Change someone’s role from the menu next to their name, or click Remove. They lose access at once and the project closes in their open tabs.
  • Invited lists invites nobody has accepted yet. Each is marked emailed or link only. An invite link lasts 7 days.
  • New link makes a fresh link for a pending invite and asks first with Make new link. The old link stops working, including the one in any email they got.
  • Revoke cancels a pending invite.
  • On the projects page, a card you share shows a badge such as Shared · 2.

Limits

By default, a project can have 5 people, counting both people on it and pending invites. The dialog shows how many seats are taken, for example 2 of 5 people. When every seat is taken, remove someone or revoke an invite first; you can still invite again someone already invited. You can send up to 30 invites a day. Some plans allow more or fewer people, or no sharing at all: then the seat line reads Your plan doesn’t include inviting people to projects.

If FloorGen can’t send email yet, a note under the form says Email isn’t set up yet, so nothing was sent. Every invite is then link only: copy the link and send it yourself. It works once and expires in 7 days.

Questions

Does the person need an account?

Yes. They sign in or create a free account when they open the invite. You can invite an address before it has an account.

Whose storage does a shared project use?

The owner’s. The project stays in the owner’s account and counts toward the owner’s limits, never the people invited to it.

Can I take back a copy from someone I removed?

No. Removing someone ends their access, but a copy already on their device stays with them as their own project.

Is this the same as the view-only page?

No. The View-only page in the Export dialog is a single HTML file anyone can open without an account. See Share a view-only page.
