Chat, images and mentions

Updated 4 min readNeeds a free account

Press ⌘I to open the FloorGen AI chat, then type what you want. Attach up to 4 images to a message, type @ to point at a room, floor, design or issue, and type / at the start for a quick command.

Write a message

  • Press ↵ to send and ⇧ ↵ for a new line. The box grows to 8 lines, then scrolls. In an empty box, ↑ brings back the last message you sent.
  • While a reply runs, Send turns into Stop. Esc in the box stops a running reply; with nothing running it takes you back to the plan.
  • A message can be up to 4,000 characters. A longer one can’t be sent until you shorten it, and a line under the box gives the limit.
  • Where the browser supports it, Dictate lets you speak the message.

On a phone the chips sit in one row that scrolls sideways, and the first chip shows only the floor. The code profile also names the /check command and the Check this against the … suggestion.

Follow-up chips

After a reply, up to 4 chips above the box send a next step in one click. Which ones show depends on the reply.

Mention with @

Type @ and pick from the list titled Mention a room, floor, design or issue: named rooms on the open floor, floors, designs on the open floor, and open issues from the Review panel, shown as Issue 3: …. Keep typing to narrow it; names with a word that starts with what you typed come first. At most 8 matches show. Use ↑ and ↓ to move, ↵ or Tab to pick and Esc to close the list. The mention points FloorGen AI at exactly that thing, so “@Bedroom 2” is never confused with another bedroom.

Rooms with no name are not offered: name the room first. Hover a room or issue in the list, or a mention in the box, to see it outlined on the plan.

Chats and the panel

Each project keeps its own chats. Open Chats in the panel header to see them with their message counts, and click one to switch to it. Rename gives a chat a new name; Delete chat asks Delete this chat? Its changes to the plan stay. Click New chat to start fresh. A project with none says No chats yet for this project.

Questions

Why can’t I attach an image?

Image upload may be turned off for your plan or the AI model. The chat then says “Images aren’t available with this AI model.”

How long can a message be?

Up to 4,000 characters.

Does FloorGen AI see earlier images in the chat?

Each image is sent with its own message. Later messages only mention that it was sent.
