Section view

Updated 2 min readWorks without an account

A section cuts through the building along a line you draw on the plan and shows it from the side: the slabs, walls, doors, stairs and heights where the line cuts. Use it to check storey heights and the headroom over a stair.

Draw a section line

  1. Step 1: Pick the Section tool

Press X, or open More tools in the tool dock and pick Section. You can also click Draw a section line under Sections in the plan summary.

  2. Step 2: Click where the line starts

Click, or press and drag, where the cut begins. Hold ⌥ to place it without snapping. Press Esc to cancel.

  3. Step 3: Click where it ends

Click, or release the drag, at the other end. Draw it across the rooms and stairs you want to see. The section opens as soon as the line is placed.

  4. Step 4: Read the section

The window is titled with the section’s name, and the line under it says which way it looks. Red marks show where a stair has less headroom than the building code asks for.

Questions

Why is my section empty?

The line doesn’t cut through any room or wall. Drag its ends on the plan so it crosses the building.

How many sections can a project have?

Up to 20. A line must also be long enough to cut through something.

Does a section need an account?

No. Drawing sections and downloading the section PDF work for guests too.
