Start from a template

Updated 3 min readWorks without an account

A template is a finished, furnished layout you can reshape however you like. Pick one from the projects page and it opens as a new project of your own; the original is never changed.

Open a template

  1. Step 1: Open the template picker

On the projects page, click the Template tile above All projects, or Templates in the sidebar and then More templates: houses, ADUs, single rooms and plot sizes. Before your first project, the page shows Start a plan with the same More templates button.

  2. Step 2: Pick a group

The Start from a template dialog has tabs: Starters, Houses, Apartments, ADUs and Single rooms. Blank plot starts an empty plan with your plot drawn on it.

  3. Step 3: Click a card

Each card shows the plan, its floor area and what is in it. Click it to create the project and open it in the editor.

The New project dialog also offers the three starters under Starting point › Template. In the editor, an empty plan’s Use a template opens Start from a template: a template you pick replaces the empty design.

  • The Mexican casa, the UK semi and the German apartment are drawn in metres and open in their own region, with its units, currency, paper, wall build-ups and code profile.
  • You can change the units or the region afterwards in Settings.

Questions

Do I need an account to use templates?

No. Guests can start from any template by default.

Can I change a template?

Yes. It becomes your own project; move walls, swap furniture or delete rooms as you like.

Why does a template show “Templates are locked”?

Templates can be switched off for some plans. Start from a blank plan or a plot size instead.
