Troubleshooting

Fixes for the problems people hit most: a blank 3D view, an export that fails, a project that says it is not saved, and video or folder saving that does not work in your browser.

The 3D view goes blank or loses its graphics

A device that runs short of memory can drop the 3D view’s graphics. A 3D image export then says “The 3D view lost its graphics context, often because the device ran short of memory.” Reload the page and try again, or pick a smaller resolution.

To save memory, set the 3D quality to Fast (under Quality and renderer in the 3D view) (no ambient occlusion or glow, light shadows; best on older devices). Auto turns the effects off by itself on a large view. High turns them on anyway and is slower on older devices.

A big plan feels slow

Set the 3D quality to Fast first. It is the quickest fix for a slow 3D view on a large plan or an older device. Closing other tabs also frees memory.

The export says the FloorGen mark could not load

When your account’s exports carry the FloorGen badge, FloorGen refuses to save a file without it. If the badge could not load, you see “The FloorGen mark this export carries could not load. Reload the page and try again.” Reload the page and export again. See Exports and your account.

The “Not saved” chip

FloorGen saves your project in this browser as you work. The save state at the right of the top bar shows Saving…, then Saved (on narrower screens, a dot). If saving fails, it shows Not saved; point at it for the reason. Click Retry to try again, or Reload when another tab changed the project.

Reasons the chip can give
ReasonWhat to do
Browser storage is fullFree space: delete projects you no longer need, or clear other site data. Then click Retry.
Browser storage was closed, reload the pageReload the page.
A newer FloorGen is open in another tab, reload the pageReload this tab, or close the other FloorGen tabs.
Browser storage is blocked in this windowA private or restricted window can block storage. Open FloorGen in a normal window.
Browser storage failedClick Retry. If it keeps failing, reload the page.
Changed in another tabReload to see the latest version. See the next section.
Could not reach browser storageClick Retry, then reload the page.

Browser storage is unavailable

If the page says “Browser storage is unavailable”, your browser blocks FloorGen from saving, often in a private window or with site data blocked. Open FloorGen in a normal window and allow site data. If a message says “Browser storage was closed unexpectedly — reload to keep saving”, reload the page.

The project is open in other tabs

Edit a project in one tab at a time. FloorGen warns “This project is also open in another tab — edit it in one tab at a time.” If another tab saved a change first, you see “This project was changed in another tab. Reload to see the latest version — edits here are not being saved.” Reload the tab to continue. After an update, “FloorGen was updated in another tab — reload to keep saving” also means a reload.

Recording a video in Firefox or an older browser

Chrome, Edge and Safari record a walkthrough video as MP4. Firefox records WebM. If your browser cannot record at all, FloorGen says “This browser can’t record video. Try a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox.” See Make a walkthrough video.

Saving into a folder is missing

The Save into a folder… row on the projects page works only in browsers with a folder picker, which means Chrome and Edge. Elsewhere the row is hidden. Use Back up all projects instead (it needs a free account by default). See Project file and backups.

Questions

Will I lose my work if the chip says Not saved?

The plan is still open in this tab. Click Retry, or download a project file to keep a copy before you close the tab.
